Our Services
From initial guidance through to installation and care, Frame and Foliage offers a considered, supportive approach to bringing imagery into your outdoor spaces. Each artwork is produced to order using substrates designed for outdoor environments, and is supported with clear guidance to help ensure it can be enjoyed with confidence over time.
Consider Your Space
Choosing the right artwork begins with understanding where it will live. Consider the scale of the space and how the artwork will sit within the wider garden or outdoor setting. Positioning should allow the piece to be enjoyed comfortably, away from areas of regular impact or abrasion, such as play areas, overhanging trees or bushes, or narrow pathways.
Frame and Foliage artworks are designed for outdoor environments and are available in two substrate options. Aluminium dibond is recommended for most settings due to its durability, stability, and resistance to weathering. With appropriate care, aluminium dibond artworks can typically last between three and five years.
Acrylic artworks are also available as an alternative substrate. While suitable for outdoor use, acrylic is less rigid than aluminium dibond and more susceptible to surface scratching and knocks, making it better suited to more sheltered locations. With care and consideration, acrylic artworks can also last between three and five years.
Artworks can be produced up to a maximum size of 170cm × 120cm (rectangular) or 150cm × 150cm (square). Pricing is confirmed following discussion of artwork choice, size, substrate, and placement, with a quote provided before any order is placed.
If you would like support with selecting an artwork, size, material, or placement, guidance is available through a short consultation via the contact form. Advice is always tailored to your individual space.
You can also view examples of artworks installed in outdoor settings on our Art in Situ page.
Ordering and Delivery
Once artwork details have been agreed and a quote confirmed, an order is placed once payment has been received. Each piece is produced to order, ensuring consistency in finish and quality.
Delivery and packaging costs are included within the quoted price and confirmed in advance. Completed artworks can be delivered directly to your address or collected by arrangement from our supplier’s London office.
Production and delivery timelines will be confirmed at the point of order, with updates provided as your artwork progresses to completion.
Installing Your Artwork
Frame and Foliage artworks can be installed on walls or fences using stand-off fixings, which are recommended and can be supplied with your artwork. Alternatively, artworks may be fitted using a fixing method of your choice, provided it is suitable for outdoor conditions and the substrate being used.
Where stand-off fixings are used, fixing points are pre-drilled, with holes positioned approximately 2cm in from the edge of the artwork and spaced evenly around the perimeter. The number of fixing points depends on the size of the piece and typically ranges from four (one at each corner) to eight for larger artworks. Artworks can also be supplied without pre-drilled holes on request.
When installing with stand-off fixings, washers should be used on both sides of the artwork — one between the stand-off and the artwork, and one between the artwork and the screw head — to help protect the surface on both sides. Washers are usually supplied with stand-off fixings. If an alternative fixing method is used, washers are also recommended on both sides of the artwork where fixings are applied.
Care should be taken during installation to ensure the artwork is handled and supported correctly. This is particularly important for acrylic artworks, which are more susceptible to surface damage through impact or if dropped. Positioning should also take into account the surrounding environment, with artworks placed in locations where they can be enjoyed without risk of regular surface contact or accidental damage
Caring For Your Artwork
Frame and Foliage artworks are designed for outdoor viewing and require minimal maintenance when displayed outside. To keep the surface in good condition, we recommend gentle cleaning only.
When cleaning, use plain water and avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or textured cloths that could scratch the surface or rub in dirt or grit. If needed, light surface dusting can be carried out once the artwork has dried, using a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
As colder weather approaches, artworks can remain outdoors; however, environmental conditions such as prolonged frost, snow, or freezing temperatures can place additional stress on materials over time. For longer-term care and to help extend the lifespan of your artwork, we recommend removing artworks during winter periods. Over winter, artworks can be cleaned, carefully packed, and stored indoors, ready to be reinstalled outdoors as conditions improve in spring.
In coastal or high-salinity environments, increased exposure to salt and moisture may affect outdoor materials over time. In these settings, more regular cleaning and seasonal removal is recommended to help maintain the artwork’s condition.
