Why Some Gardens Stay With Us
Most of us can remember a garden we’ve visited that stayed with us long after the experience. Usually, it’s not because the garden was the biggest or most expensive. More often, it’s because something about the space felt different. It may have been a particular planting combination or colour scheme, an unexpected feature, or simply the way the garden made us want to stop and spend time there.
The gardens I remember most are often the ones that feel personal. They contain details that reflect the people who created them and give the space its own character. I think this is part of the reason gardens can feel so different from one another, even when they contain similar planting arrangement or layouts. Some spaces feel functional, whilst others feel like places people genuinely spend time in.
Garden artworks can contribute to this in a similar way. They do not need to dominate a space to leave an impression. A carefully placed artwork can help create a stronger sense of identity within a garden, draw attention towards particular areas, or simply make a space feel more distinctive and memorable.
I love that this is possible - with the simple addition of a well placed garden artwork. It helps create a personal experience in my garden that hopefully not only reflects me, but helps make others want to spend time in that space too.
